Kannur

January 22nd, 2001
Having a number of sisters from the District of Kannur, the Indian Delegation expressed the desire to Very Rev. Mother M. Tekla Famiglietti, the Abbess General, to open a community in Kannur. Fr. Zuccol informed us that Sr.Amaljoyhi wished to donate her land for a contemplative religious congregation who has the perpetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Rev.,Dr. Bishop Varghese Chakkalakal, the then Bishop of Kannur, happily welcomed the Bridgettines to kannur Diocese. Fr. Zuccol S.J., the Italian missionary, laid the foundation stone for the convent and Sr. Amal Jyothi, the donor, accommodated four sisters in her ashram until the completion of the construction of the convent. In 2001 on 22nd January the 14th house in India came into reality. Adjacent land was purchased and converted into rubber plantation with the financial help of Very Rev. Mother General.

Daily activities include adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, teaching catechism to the children of the parish and preparing them for First Holy Communion; visiting the families of the parish, and participating in the Basic Christian community prayer and activities. A hostel for the students and working girls and a play school for children are also run by the sisters.
