Sr. M. Ursula was born on 14 May 1940 in Thuruthippuram, Kerala, India. She
was the youngest of eleven children born to Mathew and Aleyamma. From the
years of her formation, she owned a deep rooted spirituality and an unwavering
devotion which significantly influenced her subsequent path.
In 1962, she responded to the clear and profound call to religious life, entering the
Bridgettine Convent at Marikunnu where on 4 February 1965 she made her
temporary vows and on 4 February 1968, her perpetual profession. Sr. Ursula’s
days began and ended in the presence of the Lord. She dedicated 59 years of her
religious life in the communities at Bangalore, Marikunnu, Amachal and
Kalamassery thus leaving behind a splendid testimony of her consecrated life.
Sr. Ursula embraced the cross uniting her sufferings to it and found spiritual
strength by walking on the way of the cross. Despite her age and illness that
weakened her body, she continued her life of prayer spending all her free time in
the chapel to recite the Rosary and other personal prayers. She loved the parish
community and prayed for them. She became a symbol of God’s love by
participating in the Masses that were celebrated in the parish especially at
funerals and praying for the deceased also comforting the family members. She
was regularly engaged in the parish activities. In short, she was a soul of prayer.
In every moment of her life she prayed for a happy death so preparing herself
well to meet the Lord.
On 1 June, during the night at 2.30 am, she suffered a heart attack and fell to the
ground; the sisters immediately rushed to her but they could only certify that her
heart had stopped beating thus beginning her journey to the heavenly homeland.
